Kathleen M. Schurman, along with her husband, David Melina, owns Locket’s Meadow Farm in Bethany, CT, where they give safe harbor to more than a hundred animals, most of them rescued from slaughter situations. Kathleen blogs about what she knows best, animals (especially her animals) and motherhood (particularly her children, both human and otherwise) and whatever else gets her goat or inspires her on any given day. Locket’s Meadow is also a riding center, offering riding lessons on rescued horses, both traditional and therapeutic.
The farm is also home to steers rescued from the veal industry, hens and roosters, ducks, burros, sheep, goats, alpacas, dogs, cats and whomever else showed up and said, “please.”
Kathleen is the author of several children’s books about the farm, all proceeds benefitting Locket’s Meadow Farm Sanctuary, a 501 (c) 3 dedicated to rescuing animals from slaughter and educating about the perils of being an animal in today’s world, as well as rehabilitating animals to work with humans of all ages and abilities to better understand themselves and the world around them.
Kathleen’s books include:
